Buildipedia v2 is Here!

So you may have noticed that we just finished a pretty sweeping website redesign. Not only did we introduce a new look for our brand, but also a new structure for our content. It is our attempt to give you a better experience while you're here, and our decisions were informed (of course) by metrics: how you found us, what you hoped to find, and how you behaved while you were here on the site.

The theme of our new design and structure was simplification. We created a simpler navigation menu and categorized our content by its relevance to AEC pros or the DIY and home improvement crowd.

What we noticed when we looked over these metrics was this: Buildipedia had developed two distinct audiences, not one. First, in keeping with our mission, we had succeeded in becoming a destination for AEC pros seeking to share knowledge, promote best practices, and advance their understanding of building. However, we had also succeeded in attracting a home improvement and DIY crowd that was every bit as engaged as our pros.

This was happy news, and it prompted us to try to improve the user experience we offered. We think that our redesign will facilitate communication between individuals from these two different groups and add value for both "pros and joes" alike. By building a better website, we could help everyone build better, generally.

Simplify

The theme of our new design and structure was simplification. We created a simpler navigation menu and categorized our content by its relevance to AEC pros or the DIY and home improvement crowd. We kept most of the topics from our original design and consolidated others. We also gave Buildipedia's original videos an easier-to-find, dedicated home.

Pardon Our Mess

During the first few weeks of the new design, we expect to see a glitch or two. If you come across anything like a broken link, a mis-categorized article, or the like, please leave us a comment below so that we can fix it. We look forward to hearing from you.
