Jeff Wilson Everyday DIY Blog

Let's talk DIY

This is the place to rant, rave, brag, belly-ache, crack a joke, procrastinate, and delve into the metaphysical aspects of the DIY mindset. We’re off the map, on a tangent, and frequently off topic. This is the stuff we don’t show on TV.

Ice Storage

Ice storage systems are an optional feature that can be procured and installed with many chilled water generators. Chilled water generators and their associated pumps provide cool water (actually a water-glycol mixture) via distribution piping to fan coil units installed within individual spaces throughout a building. This system provides conditioned air to a building, but through a distinctly different method than the forced cool air systems that most home-owners are familiar with. Fan coil units, as their name implies, are packaged mechanical devices that use rotating fan blades to push air across sealed coils through which chilled water is being pumped.

Room Air-Conditioners

This topic covers information related to room air conditioners installed during construction or on an as needed basis. Room air conditioners provide chilled air to a space by removing heat and humidity during a refrigeration cycle. They can be temporary or fixed appliances installed through wall or within a building opening.

Radiators

This topic covers information related to radiators installed during construction. Radiators can be single or double pipe systems that are used in conjunction with a boiler. Water or steam is circulated through the pipes and radiates heat through a structure.

Dehumidifiers

This topic covers information related to dehumidifiers installed as part of a HVAC system during construction. Dehumidifiers remove moisture by condensing water vapors to a liquid. Water is collected, evaporates or drains to a specified location.
