Devices are installed in fixed positions or are movable by hand or a motor. In addition to controlling the thermal affects of the sun, exterior sun control devices also provide privacy, insulate the interior and protect against damage that could be caused by storms.

Older windows in a historical or architectural structure often have qualities that demand for preservation of such windows rather than replacement.
